Subject: modern Bible versions
Dear Brother John,
It seems that you may have information about the advantages and accuracy
of the new versions of the Bible that the rest of us do not have. I'm not sure
what version you are using, but it does make it very difficult for us to follow
you in your presentations. In your magazine you state that the verses were
taken from a literal translation. Does this mean a non-polluted literal translation
or from a polluted literal translation taken from a Catholic manuscript? If
you have more accurate knowledge regarding these new versions, please inform
us.
Are you familiar with a Gail Riplinger who completed a comprehensive collation
of all the modern versions and found over 8,000 changes from the King James
versions. These changes favored the new age or catholic teachings.
Have you read B.G.Wilkinson's book "Our Authorized Bible Vindicated? He makes it crystal clear that all of these modern versions are very close to the Douay version. In other words, all of these modern versions were "corrected" to align with the Catholic doctrines and will take protestants back to Rome. Many Catholic writers have published articles rejoicing that these versions have finally presented Catholic truth and these versions have sounded the death knell to Protestantism. If you would like for me to document these statements, I would be happy to do so.
Please allow me to give my personal testimony and observations regarding ministers that persist in using the modern versions. In one church that we attended, we noticed that the pastor always used the NIV.He presented many errors and on more that one occasion my wife and I would say to him as we were leaving,"Pastor you were preaching error again today! We would like to talk to you about these." He would not keep his appointment with us and to make it short he left the church and started preaching in a Sunday keeping church, divorced, and became one of the local sheriff deputies. The next pastor used the same version and began preaching errors also. To make it short, he too left the church, divorced and became a cattle broker. The next pastor used one of the modern versions and preached many sermons exactly like Jack Siquiera. The "In Christ Motif", and the false assurance of salvation. Now you can understand why I might put up a "red flag" when I hear a pastor use a "literal translation". By the way this pastor found a large following and the church was split between more than one group.
The next example happened here just recently. There was a little independent group here that used only the King James version and were in almost complete harmony. A couple whom you know very well, presented ideas on the new versions, and used one of the modern versions. This caused confusion and another split occured. Now this little group has the policy that none of the modern versions can be used from the front. Why should we allow the Bibles that are polluted with Catholic sympathies to be used on our unsuspecting flock? Why would one venture to use "strange fire" in God's services?
Another excellent presentation outlining the dangers of using modern versions is "The Battel of the Bibles" by H.H. Meyers. I would be delighted to send you a copy if you are interested in searching this topic further! Please let me know. If other ministries allow you to preach to their congregations using these corrupted versions, I would seriously question whether these pastors were really interested in protecting their flock from the teachings of Rome.
Pastor Grosboll, please consider this letter as a sincere warning about the direction you have taken. The new versions will have a serious effect on you as well as the ones who hear you. Would you please explain to us the reason you persist is using the modern corrupted version? You have a very heavy responsibility to your listeners! You must not mingle the true with the false.
Is Jesus only a great priest like Zacharias,Aaron,Melchizedek,or our great High Priest? The version that you use does not make it clear. Please read B.G. Wilkinson's scholarly explanation of this very perversion of great priest instead of our High Priest.
We are so very thankful for the Lord's daily leading in our lives. To think that we have a great High Priest pleading and mediating for us in the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly Sanctuary above. We have so much to thank Jesus our great High Priest for.
May the Lord bless you and impress you with the truth regarding the new versions and then give you courage to act accordingly. It takes tremendous courage for one in great leadership position to admit their wrong and make the necessary changes. We will be praying that you will have that kind of courage.
In Christian love and concern,
Marion Pritchard

Subject: Bible Versions
Dear Brother Prichard:
I want to thank you for your communication about the Bible versions. Pastor
John's schedule is such with T.V. production, Radio production and speaking
appointment preparation that he has asked me to answer your questions.
Let me first of all say that Pastor John does not use "a version" of
the Holy Scriptures. He does not preach from the English Translation of any sort
but he uses the Hebrew Old Testament and the Greek New Testament. We here
at Steps are fully aware of the controversy that has been generated by such
books as you describe in your email. Ms. Riplinger's book has been read extensively
by S.D.A. and they have accepted it as credible. The reason for this is because
they do not know the original languages so that they can check out her words.
Let me say that her work contains so many mistakes that it looses credibility very rapidly. Most people are not
able or willing to do these checks.
No one here at Steps are interested in depreciating the King James Version. We encourage folks to use what ever version they feel confident with.
As far as the antidotal evidence of those who use the NIV seems to cause them to become unfaithful is without any foundation. These folks no doubt had problems in addition to any Bible versions.
I know personally of a person who
was pastoring an historic church where the KJV was declared to be the only
valid translation. No one was allowed to come and even speak if they used any other translation. However, this
person ran off with the church secretary and is not longer in the faith
as far as I know. There are others who have fallen into this same
trap also. This however does not serve as any evidence to support
the use or non use of any version. Evidence exists on each side of
the question. The Issue really has to be what is the greatest amount
of evidence to support any version.
What we have endeavored to do here at Steps is to allow the freedom to use what ever version which is supported by the most qualifying evidence of correctness. This brings us back to the use of the original languages, you just can't get any closer to accurate than this.
I hope that this has been helpful for you. If we can answer any further questions, please drop us a line.
With Christian Regards
Pastor Mike Baugher
