Proverbs 2
Rewards of Wisdom

Job 4:17-21: 17 Is man more righteous than God? Or (can) a strong man be purer than his Maker? 18 Behold, He puts no trust in His servants; and He charges His [messengers] with folly! 19 How much more (no trust is put in) those that dwell in houses of clay; whose foundation is in the dust (Genesis 3:14); they crush them (houses of clay) before the moth! 20 They are shattered from morning till evening; they perish forever with no one regarding. 21 Is not their tent cord pulled up within them? They die, but not with wisdom. (Supplied) [Hebrew]

Knowing wisdom is key to entering the spiritual paradise. Without the wisdom of God, a person is destined to be bound by cords of sin and go astray, Proverbs 5:21-23. A tent was literally the dwelling place of the early Hebrew, used here figuratively of a person indicating spiritual and literal death.

Job 11:3-6: 3 Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed? 4 For you have said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your eyes. 5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you; 6 And that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity (perverted thinking) deserves.

The NIV puts two sides for double. Either way, there is much wisdom in seeing that there are two sides, or a double understanding of the Son of God, mentioned figuratively in the two stacks of show bread, two cherubs on the ark, the two witnesses and two olive trees in Revelation 11:3-4 and Zechariah 4:11-14. Without the double, there is not a full understanding of the Son of God or the cross.

Read Proverbs: 2:1-6:
1. List the steps toward obtaining understanding? Verses 1-3

2. To what is a diligent search related? Verse 4; Romans 11:33

3. What is the result of following these instructions? Verse 5-6

Read Proverbs 2:6-9:
4. What is another way of describing the knowledge & wisdom from the mouth of the Lord? Proverbs 1:23; Ezekiel 2:1-2
{Breath carries spoken words, & breath is a symbol for the spirit. Man’s - Job 15:12-13}

5. How does a person benefit from what happens in verses 7 & 8? Verse 9
{Understand is biyn h995 = to separate mentally, to distinguish, to consider. By receiving God’s instructions & sound wisdom, we receive the spiritual skill to distinguish true righteousness, just judgment and equity (or, honesty).}

Read Proverbs 2:10-20:
6. How will a person know when knowledge is pleasant to the soul?
{This is something personal, but you will know when it happens. When it does, you will cling to it as a pearl of great price, no matter what friends, family or church says. Remember, almost all the church disagreed with the teachings of Jesus.}

7. With understanding & knowledge feeding your soul, from what is your heart being guarded? 1. Ways of the wicked; 2. Men who speak perverse words; 3. Those who are walking in darkness; 4. and rejoice to do evil; 5. Delight in perverseness of evil; 6. Whose paths are crooked; 7. And devious in their tracks (ways).

8. What/who is the strange woman from whom we are delivered by Wisdom? (NIV) Revelation 17:1-5
{Properly, a woman which has turned aside; an adulteress woman; a wayward woman with seductive words (Do not put this outward) Even John marveled at her beauty. A woman is a figure of a city, a way of thinking: the mind-set of Babylon is that great city, Revelation 14:8, by which the whole world is perverted in their thinking.}

Read Proverbs 2:21-22:
9. What is the land in which the upright live, but the deceitful are plucked out of it?
